EVP Recordings

It is believed by some that spirit voices can be electronically captured using ordinary recording equipment. This is known as EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena). There is a theory that sounds from paranormal sources can somehow directly imprint onto audio recording devices.

Here are some EVP recordings we recorded using either a digital voice recorder, a portable cassette recorder, or other equipment. We don't claim to know what these sounds are. All we can tell you for sure is that we did not fake any of these recordings or try to deceive you. As it is with all EVP, we didn't hear any of these sounds until we played the recordings later.

We don't want to tell you exactly what we think these sounds are because doing so would plant a suggestion in your mind and influence what you may or may not hear. Just listen closely and decide for yourself.

We usually make no attempt to "clean up" or filter these audio files (other than boosting the volume on some portions). It is my belief that doing so may accidentally filter out or alter some important aural information. All of these audio files are presented exactly as recorded unless noted otherwise.

Before listening, please read the description for each EVP.
These descriptions provide some key information which will be helpful in understanding the circumstances under which each EVP was recorded. For example, some of the EVP recordings were recorded with two or three different devices at the same time, from opposite sides of the room!

Here are two similar EVP recordings we recorded on the same night. We have heard this same raspy screeching sound many times. You can hear the same voice on EVP8 and EVP2.   Recorded at our house with a Sony DCR-TRV250 camcorder during Summer, 2005.

Camcorder recording:

On this night we were doing a sweep of the basement with our equipment. My husband was using an EMF detector, my brother was using a camcorder, and I had a digital voice recorder. Dave picked up this EVP voice just as I was walking up the steps to the kitchen upstairs.

At the same time, we picked up the same EVP voice with my voice recorder on the opposite side of the room.

Recorded at our house with a Sony DCR-TRV250 camcorder and a Panasonic RR-QR80 digital voice recorder on October 22, 2005.

Here is the same EVP, recorded at the same time from across the room with a digital voice recorder.

This was recorded in our basement. There were three of us recording with voice recorders and a camcorder. You can hear my brother joking around, "Is there any goo in the sink? You can't even give us any ectoplasm?" As he says this, you can hear a loud voice that isn't ours.

These two recordings were recorded at the same time with different recorders spaced several feet apart.

Recorded at our house with a Sony camcorder on July 17, 2005. Second version was recorded at the exact same time using a digital voice recorder.

Here is the same EVP, recorded at the same time as the camcorder recording, only this one was recorded with a digital voice recorder.

This is not strictly an EVP, but sometimes at night we can hear sounds coming from the kitchen. It sounds like something is continuously opening and closing the kitchen cabinets. We're not sure if the cabinets are physically moving or not (We haven't looked!). This is a recording I made from the other room.

Recorded at our house with an Olympus digital voice recorder in 2005.

On this night we were in the basement and my husband was using the EMF meter to see if he could pick up anything. In one corner the meter started going wild and we picked up an odd screaming sound.

We recorded this simultaneously with the camcorder and two voice recorders. All three instruments picked up the same sound.
Recorded with a Sony CCD-250 camcorder and two digital voice recorders on May 21, 2005. Compare this recording to EVP2. We think they are somewhat similar.

EVP can be recorded anywhere. Dave recorded this sound file at his own house. The recording is presented here in two parts - the first part is the original recording. After asking a question, you can barely hear a soft voice answering him. At the end of this sound file, we again added the "answer" part of the recording slightly enhanced by increasing the volume by about 500% and slowing the sound down to make it clearer. Recorded with a laptop computer using an external microphone on September 12. 2004.

On this night I was beginning to get impatient, so I got smart with the ghosts. At the end of the recording, you can hear their reaction. I don't think they were very happy. Recorded with a digital voice recorder on August 25. 2004.

This was recorded in the basement of our house. Though the recordings we tried upstairs were perfectly clear, we were getting static-like interference when we tried recording in the basement. Here you can hear my brother ask if anyone would like to talk to us, then you hear a faint answer. Recorded with a laptop computer and recording software on August 15. 2004. Small microphone was used.

This was recorded in the basement of our house late at night.

We left the camcorder downstairs by itself to record for about 15 minutes at a time. This voice appeared on one of the recordings.
Recorded with the Sony CCD-TRV68 camcorder on October 2, 2003.

We hate to alter the sound files in any way, but I tried to filter some of the noise from this EVP so you could hear the voice easier. The sing-song musical quality of the EVP is caused by the editing software.

My brother and I had placed the camcorder downstairs to record while we were upstairs in the kitchen. You can hear us talking and laughing upstairs, but then you hear a number of tapping sounds which plainly came from somewhere close to the camcorder in the basement.

My brother and I had placed a cassette recorder in the basement to record for about 15 minutes. When we went downstairs to get the tape recorder, we picked up this sound.

You can hear my brother talking and then a faint howling sound followed by a few quick taps. We didn't notice these sounds until later when we played the tape back. Sorry about the tape hiss. I had to really increase the volume of the recording in order to let you hear the sound.

This one was not recorded where we now live. It was actually recorded at my old apartment. A light had been coming on by itself. I started recording and asked the name of the entity. Something answered.

Recorded with a digital voice recorder a couple of years ago.
