Intersection Piece:
Dave Scott, 2006
With this piece I wanted to explore boundaries,
intersections of lines, and borders. How we use them. How we react
to them. Why we behave a certain way when confronted with these borders
and boundaries.
To explore this idea, I bought a roll of red electrical
tape. I used the tape to create lines which would break up, intersect,
and disrupt the natural order of lines and patterns we see every
day. The lines would become newly introduced architectural elements
- creating new artificial borders and boundaries.
I went to a shopping mall to stretch lines of red tape across floors,
chairs, waste receptacles, benches, doors, and other flat surfaces.
Tape was left in place until someone reacted to the newly defined
boundaries.
