Better Than Pills:
Dave Scott, 2008

I made a number of bookmarks to take to the doctor's office. Each bookmark said, "Get Well Soon."

While I was in the waiting room, I inserted one of these bookmarks into each of the magazines there.

I figured these small suggestive notes would be viewed by many sick people.

Maybe, my holistic hoodoo will help people to feel better. The power of suggestion is very strong. Maybe someone will read one of these bookmarks and feel better - or at least feel less anxious about their injury or illness.

The doctor's usual habit is to weigh you, take your blood pressure, and listen to you for five minutes. After that, he/she will usually write you a prescription for some kind of pill. Possibly two or three.

People in this country are highly medicated. Drug companies make billions while many of us struggle and have no money for health care. The last thing we need is another pill. Or another bill from the doctor's office or hospital.

The worry over money is extremely stressful and, as every doctor will tell you, stress can lead to many serious health risks, like higher blood pressure, stroke, migraines, or even mental breakdowns.

Instead of adding to the stress, by accumulating more doctor bills, perhaps we should should just stay home and think happy thoughts.

Get well soon.
