Section 203:
Dorothy Schultz, 2006

For this project, I decided to manipulate a very old film about Abraham Lincoln's life. I decided to alter a section of the film when Lincoln reads an excerpt of the Emancipation Proclamation and then signs the document. So, I took out the audio of Abe speaking and then inserted new audio of a man's voice reading Section 203 of the Patriot Act. Section 203 is perhaps the most controversial section of the Patriot Act because it gives governmental authorities the right to personal information. Abraham Lincoln then is seen reading this section aloud and signing it in the film. Also, I have the film playing from an old roll film projector so that one must question the validity of this footage.
